House Subcommittee Clears Funding for FFDO

Today, the House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee approved a bill that protects funding for the Federal Flight Deck Officer program in FY13.  The bill rejects a proposal by the Administration to cut funding for the FFDO program by more than half.  The FFDO program is staffed by thousands of fully trained and deputized ALPA pilot volunteers, and ALPA has been actively engaged with Congressional leaders in fighting for the program’s future.  Pilots are the last layer of defense for our commercial airline flights, and ALPA will continue to press for robust funding of the FFDO program.
