ALPA to testify Wednesday as EU presses ahead with revenue raising emissions tax

As ALPA First Vice President Sean Cassidy prepares to testify before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee next Wednesday regarding ALPA’s opposition to the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU-ETS), EU carbon markets show large increases in volume and volatility.  Additionally, the Council of the European Union released their conclusions from their recent Financial Affairs Council meeting.  The release states that the Council “encourages the EU and its Member States to further engage effectively in negotiations in ICAO and IMO to support carbon pricing schemes which primarily incentivise mitigation and also have the potential to generate revenue,” proving once again that for the EU, this really is just a revenue raising tax.
